Production Team

Introducing Andrew Johns as our Director

Andrew trained at RADA and has enjoyed a busy career in theatre and television, including six months touring the USA in ‘As You Like It’ with the National Theatre, which culminated in a run on Broadway. He worked with the RSC in the original production of ‘Privates on Parade’ and was assistant director on the original West End production of ‘Bugsy Malone’ (in which he directed a twelve-year-old Catherine Zeta-Jones!). He was delighted when he learned that he was to be zapped by a Dalek in ‘Dr Who’ (‘Genesis of the Daleks’).

As an actor he has worked at theatres all over the country, including the Chichester Festival Theatre, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, and, closer to home, extensively at the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, Mercury Theatre, Colchester and Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, in productions that include ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘Oliver’, ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, ‘Amadeus’, ‘Absurd Person Singular’, ’Wait Until Dark’, ‘Death Trap’ and dame in panto!

He has directed professional lunchtime theatre productions at the Wolsey and three amateur productions at the Wolsey Studio - ‘An Inspector Calls’, ‘The Sacred Flame’ and ‘The Dresser’.

Andrew is very excited to be working with IODS on such an iconic musical.

Mike Wren

Introducing Mike Wren as Musical Director

Mike has a long-running association with the IODS Theatre Company and since first performing with the society in 1997 has been privileged to work on a wealth of productions, both amateur and professional as an on-stage performer, orchestral musician and Musical Director (credits include more than thirty productions to date as MD and for the BBC Children in Need Concert at Snape Maltings in 2009 as well as a vast number of charity concerts. Mike also enjoyed accompanying Ruthie Henshall and Kerry Ellis in 2017).

After a brief hiatus traveling and working as MD and Show band Musician for Carnival Cruise lines, Mike returned to full time teaching and is now in his tenth year as Director of Music at Felixstowe Academy. Mike has also been kept busy as a vocal tutor for Theatretrain and Stage Coach and co-written shows for Greenfingers© productions. Amongst numerous other appearances Mike enjoys performing regularly in the Lead Alto Sax chair of the IMU Big Band, with whom he has also been associated for more than ten years.

Although having worked as resident Musical Director with IODS for nearly fifteen years now, Mike is also associated with numerous other companies and local groups and, following the CTC’s recent production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers where Mike was playing in the pit orchestra, he was given the challenge of changing roles to conduct the last two performances! Mike was delighted to have been invited to take up the baton once again for the Children’s Theatre Company in January to work with old friend Bridie on “Hairspray,” which was performed at the Apex in Bury St. Edmunds.

“My Fair Lady” is a classic piece of musical theatre – a heartwarming story accompanied by some beautiful music. Mike is very much looking forward to performing the score of the IODS Theatre Company’s latest production!
